Reclusive 104 year-old heiress Huguette Clark enters hospital – leaving …

She owns a 42-room apartment on Fifth Ave., a palatial California estate and a million Connecticut chateau.

But a 104-year-old heiress whose life is shrouded in mystery has forsaken the lap of luxury for a nondescript hospital room somewhere in the city.

Reclusive for decades, Huguette Clark has abandoned her wildly valuable properties, which remain empty but well-tended by staff.

A life of incredible privilege took a bizarre turn with the death of her mother – and Clark traded in aristocracy for eccentricity.

“Everything stopped for her when her mother died,” Andre Baeyens, Clark’s grand-halfnephew, told NBC’s “Today” show, which tracked down the centenarian.

“She didn’t want to go out. She didn’t want to have beautiful things, no, no. She just wanted to be home and play with her dolls.”

The show did not identify the medical facility where Clark spends her days, to protect her privacy. Her lawyer told them she’s lucid but not interested in the outside world.

She reportedly told friends that wealth was a “menace to happiness” – and few people were richer than Clark.

She inherited her fortune from her father, William Clark, a U.S. senator and Montana tycoon who made a killing from copper mines, railroads and Las Vegas property.

Her birth raised eyebrows in high society because her father – the second-richest man in the U.S. at one point – was 39 years older than her mother and no marriage license was recorded.

As a young woman, she embraced extravagance like the Paris Hilton of the Gilded Age.

She ran around with wealthy playboys and was linked in society pages to a British duke. To learn to play the harp, she hired a Juilliard maestro.

She was obsessed with dolls and would bestow them on friends’ children as gifts. Once she flew a doll first-class to Paris with her personal physician along to ensure its safety, the “Today” report said.

She amassed a real estate portfolio that would make Donald Trump blush.

There’s the 15,000-square-foot Fifth Ave. apartment overlooking Central Park where her lawyer sends a cleaning crew once a week, building staffers say.

In 1952, she bought a 52-acre New Canaan, Conn., estate, but never spent a night in the breath-taking French chateau.

“It’s a beautiful property,” real estate agent Barbara Cleary, who has been trying to sell the million home for two years, told the Daily News.

“It’s been very well-cared for over the years.”

Clark’s oceanfront spread in Santa Barbara, Calif., has also been unoccupied for more than 40 years.

In 2009, she was offered 0 million for the property known as Bellosguardo, but turned down the offer, the Santa Barbara Independent reported.

One of the key statistics out this week will be the ISM Purchasing Manager Index for July. This will be one to watch closely for more clues on how things are tracking 1 month into the second half of this year. It will also be interest to see in the context of China just releasing their PMI number in the weekend; recording 51.2, down from 52.1, as seasonal and government factors put the brakes on activity slightly.

In monetary policy it is likely to be a boring week in spite of the three high profile central banks meeting this week. The RBA is unlikely to increase the interest rate, instead opting to wait and see. The Bank of England wont be tightening just yet (and further easing is pretty low probability). The ECB will likewise just sit on their hands, but of course the accompanying statement will be very informative as usual.

On the employment front, the much watched US nonfarm payrolls figure will also add further clues to the state of the US economy – will we see a pick up? or will further signs of a double-dip show through? Canada will also report, but is in a better position than the US. New Zealand will also release its quarterly employment report, and will likely show further improvement.

Elsewhere, statistics releases of interest this week include; US consumer credit (a good update on this sector – expect continued weakness), Aussie retail sales and EU retail sales, producer price index for the EU and UK, and Italian Q2 GDP – as well as the July estimate for the UK; there’s also the US personal consumption expenditure report.

So as always, have a great week, watch out for surprises, and stay tuned for updates…

Kim Kardashian and Former Miss Missouri Candice Crawford

Kim Kardashian and Former Miss Missouri Candice Crawford

Candice Crawford

Kim Kardashian has made no bones about the fact that she likes to choose her men from the NFL pool. Prior to her current love, Kim was known as the eye candy on Reggie Bush’s arm. Kardashian currently adorns the arm of Miles Austin. On Sunday, Kardashian joined Candice Crawford in a private booth to watch the Dallas Cowboy’s practice.

The former Miss Missouri is said to be the jewel on Tony Romo’s arm for now. Kardashian and Austin won’t confirm the relationship but they have been seen together several times and of course her presence at practice sure looks convincing. Most Dallas fans remember Tony Romo as the guy friend, as opposed to actual boyfriend, of pop star Carrie Underwood. Now, however, the former Miss Missouri Candice Crawford will be the pegged as Romo’s girl as they head into the new season.

Imagine the surprise of various athletes, including Jerry Jones, who were beyond shocked to see these two women taking in an NFL practice session. The best part of the day came as various members of the media along with Cowboys administration started to ask questions. Miles Austin smiled and jogged off without responding to any of the questions regarding Kardashian. As for Romo, who knows what’s going on with him but Candice Crawford is a gorgeous young lady, time will only tell if he can hang on to her.

Extreme Weather Apartment Safety

Regardless of where you live geographically, odds are good at some point you may be hit with extreme weather in one form or another. And while most modern apartment communities are built with the local weather patterns in mind, there are still safeguards you can take to ensure you’re prepared when mother nature goes on the offensive.

While that fancy high-definition flatscreen television might be the envy of your neighbors, when it comes to extreme winds and rain oftentimes the most effective technology is a basic weather radio. Usually powered by 9-volt battery (be sure and have plenty on hand), these informative devices can be literal lifesavers. Flashlights are also a mandatory item, ensuring you’re not left in the dark when a storm hits.

If your apartment has a lot of windows, convene your family into an enclosed area, such as a bedroom closet. Store extra blankets and pillows in your appointed ‘apartment safe zone’, and also be sure to keep plenty of bottled water and canned food on hand for emergencies. Remember, even if the storm is short in duration, the long term effects on local supplies may be lengthier than anticipated, so plan for at least a week’s worth of rations.

In this day and age it’s almost impossible to go through daily living without a cell phone, but make sure you have one on hand (and charged!) prior to bad weather hitting. Disposable track phones can usually be found even in a local convenience store, and a cell might just be your lifeline to professional assistance in the event of an emergency.

No one likes to consider the dire possibility of extreme weather targeting their new apartment, but with a little foresight and some commonsense preparation, odds are good you and your fellow apartment residents can weather any storm.

JailbreakMe Not Working: Comex’s JailbreakMe Bogged Down

On May 15th, 2012 by maureen | No Comments | Posted in Hot News

No, Steve Jobs didn’t unleash his secret Apple police on Comex’s servers.

JailbreakMe, the web-based jailbreak utility for all iOS devices—iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad—is experiencing difficulties, no doubt due to the huge wave of traffic the site has seen since its launching last night.

To try and help with the large surge in traffic, Comex made a second site live last night.

Users who are successful in accessing the site and jailbreaking their iDevices are also experiencing some issues.

Initial reports last night made two problems apparent: iPad owners using iOS 3.2.1 were having a hard time jailbreaking, and MMS was behaving strangely.

Word is Comex will tweak their web-based offering to remedy the iPad issue.

It’s also advised users sync their devices before attempting any jailbreaking solutions.
